On March 2, 1925, the 'ASSG' (Amsterdam Study Society for Sociographers), the forerunner of the 'ASVS', was founded. The association experienced turbulent times at the time of World War II and in the 1960s when the influence of the Provo movement was inevitable.
For years, the 'ASVS' for geographers and 'Het Groene Hart' for urban planners stood side by side, something that was not always easy. When the programs were merged, cooperation in several areas was necessary. Ultimately, the joined forces and in 2009 they merged to form Sarphati, a mature association that geographers and urban planners can both be proud of!
