As I write this, my semester in San Francisco is almost over! It really flies by and you are so busy all the time doing only fun things!
I chose San Francisco because I wanted to go to an English-speaking country outside of Europe. I also took into consideration the course offerings, housing and whether there was anything to do when I made my choice. Funnily enough, I abandoned many of my criteria and, as they say so nicely in the Libelle, followed my heart. I'm taking courses here in the Geography and Environment department at San Francisco State University. I am taking courses on geopolitics, urban geography, China and the environment in the future. The subjects are very fun but the level is very low, resulting in me being an excellent student for the first time in my life. Because the level is so low, I do have the opportunity to see a lot of the city and its surroundings. San Francisco is a tremendously fun city with many different neighborhoods that all have their own identity. There is always something to do and something for everyone, from an ice cream museum to a BDSM festival in the middle of the street. It is one of the most liberal cities in America and have yet to discover many Trump supporters. |

San Francisco, unfortunately, is also the city of contradictions. It is one of the most expensive cities in the world to live in ($800 dollars a month for a shared room, hello?!) and has a huge homeless problem. These mainly reside in the center the city and have built some sort of tent camps there which makes for a very confrontational picture. I have traveled extensively on the West Coast and surrounding areas and have been to Los Angeles, Las Vegas, several national parks and Mexico. I definitely highly recommend studying in San Francisco! If you like to go to an English-speaking country, live the Cali lifestyle and are not afraid to look sweetly at 'Uncle DUO', San Francisco is definitely a good place for you!
