Bachelor's
To help you with your study choice, there is the Voorlichtingscommissie (Student Information Committee). They will be happy to tell you more about our study on the page in the link below. Of course, you can also find more information on the UvA website.
Master's
If you are considering a masters in Geography or Planning, you probably already know a lot more about what this field of study entails. Therefore, for more information, it is best to dive into the UvA website. Below is an overview of the Master's programs at the UvA that cover our field of study.

Booksale
As a study association, Sarphati ensures that its members can purchase books cheaply and easily. Via the link below, you can order books with your discount if you are a member of Sarphati. You can also see right away which books you need, nice and easy! Note that from the second year onwards, you no longer need all the books, but only the books for the courses you choose! An additional advantage is that the supplier knows that the books have to arrive before the new semester, which reduces the chance of delays.
Study advisors
Whatever questions you may have (unless they are about a specific subject) the first point of contact is usually one of the study advisers. For the Bachelor's program there are three study advisers: Caius Nijstad, Iti Westra and Jacqueline Naaborg. They introduce themselves via the link below. The study advisor for the Master's programs is Iris van Urk. All study advisors can be reached via the same e-mail address, and you can also schedule an appointment (at the UvA or online) via the UvA website. Should you have a question about a specific course, it is best to contact the student assistant of the course. Who that is can be found in the Course Manual.
Program Committee
To ensure the quality of education, both the Bachelor's and Master's programs have a Program Committee. It consists of three lecturer-members and three student members who discuss and research matters concerning the programs. Would you like to raise something or do you think something could be improved? Then you can contact the student members. The Bachelor's student members introduce themselves on a separate page, the Master's student members on the special Master page. Please note, the Program Committees are not there to handle individual complaints, only to raise larger/broader issues.
Buddies for first-year students
To make it easier to find your way around the university, groups of first-year students are assigned buddies who have been around at the UvA and HGP for a while. You can find more information on the page below.
Exchange experiences of 'Sarphatianen'
Are you considering going abroad for six months during your studies? On the page below, you can read the stories of some Sarphatianen who already did it. So you can read about their experiences, and whether it might be something for you too. If, after reading these stories, you have also been inspired and would like to go abroad, contact your study advisor well in advance. After all, you do have to apply quite a while before you would actually like to go :-).
